John Bryce Bandy, passed away on January 2, 2026, in Louisburg, Kansas, at the age of 87. Born on May 26, 1938, in Muskogee, Oklahoma. John led a life marked by service to his community, a commitment to education, and a passion for his interests.
John graduated from North High School in Wichita, Kansas, in 1956. He furthered his education at Wichita State University, obtaining a Master’s Degree in Computer Science. He was a Computer Analyst for the City of Wichita and later for Wichita School District Data Center, from which he retired.
He was a member of the Wichita Amateur Radio Operators Club and the Coast Guard Auxiliary. Additionally, he took great pride in being a scout leader for the Boy Scouts of America, mentoring young individuals and imparting valuable life skills.
John’s military service began in high school, where he enrolled in ROTC. He was in Pershing Rifles, where he was recognized for his exemplary skills as a sharpshooter. He served two years in the Army and many years in the Army Reserves.
He was an avid ham radio operator and belonged to the Wichita Amateur Radio Club throughout his life. His call was W0UT. He enjoyed talking on his ham radio, stock trading, and listening to music. John and his wife attended the Wichita Jazz bands at Wichita State University for years. He also enjoyed woodworking, sailing and was a Master Gardener.
John is survived by; his wife, Ellen Bandy, his son, Troy (Tatum) Bandy; his daughter, Shauna (Mary) Bandy-Gilmore; and grandchildren, Ainsley Bandy and Elijah Gilmore. John was preceded in death by his parents, Bryce and Faye Bandy, and brother Robert Bandy.
