GARNETT — For the time being, the city of Garnett has received a clean bill of health for its efforts to make sidewalks more accessible to the handicapped. City manager Joyce Martin said the federal civil rights office reviewed the city’s list of sidewalks improvements downtown and in northern Garnett. She says federal regulators sent her a letter approving what’s been done so far and would continue monitoring the city’s efforts.
After receiving complaints from Garnett residents, state and federal regulators have been leaning on the city this year to comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
