The Ottawa City Commission approved adding two tornado sirens and upgrading several others, at their meeting on Wednesday. The two new ones would cover 59 Highway and Proximity Park. The sirens are placed around the city so there is overlap of the sound so it can be heard by everyone. However, City Manager Brian Silcott says although sirens can help in notification of severe weather if you are inside…. That’s not what they are for:
Ottawa currently has 10 sirens. Five are scheduled for full upgrades, three with partial upgrades, plus two new ones for a total cost of just under $123,000. You can also be assured that KOFO will bring you all severe weather updates on any storms that may be affecting the listening area.
