The Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks announced the completion and opening of a newly improved section of the Flint Hills Trail State Park. The 2.3-mile segment, located between Louisiana Terrace and Iowa Road, will officially open to the public tomorrow, May 17th.

For several years, trail riders have had to take a three and a half mile detour on gravel roads around the area. Now, the trail is 93 continuous miles from Osawatomie to Council Grove. One of the highlights of the project is a brand new bridge over the railroad tracks and improvements to three existing bridges.
Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks Secretary, Christopher Kennedy calls the Flint Hills Trail a shining example of how Kansas continues to invest in meaningful outdoor spaces. Ottawa is fortunate to be the only place in Kansas where two trails intersect. The Flint Hills Trail and the Prairie Spirit Trail come together at 1st and Walnut.
