In 1974, President Gerald Ford authorized EMS Week to recognize and celebrate the vital contributions of EMS practitioners across the country. Since then, EMS has evolved into an essential public service and a critical part of our healthcare system. At the Franklin County Commission meeting, commissioners issued a proclamation designating this week as Emergency Medical Services Week. EMS Chief Christi Hilliker accepted:

They also declared May 21st as Emergency Medical Services for Children’s Day, announcing that all children and adolescents receive appropriate care in any health emergency and highlight the need for high quality specialized emergency medical care for all kids.
