Miami County is in need of General Transportation. Lakemary Center General Public Transportation Service closes their operation June 30th. A lot of older residents in Miami County rely on the transportation service to get around since many don’t or can’t drive anymore. Many rely on the service to get to and from the grocery store, doctor appointments and much more.
According to the Miami County Republic, Lakemary’s transportation service is funded, in part, by the Kansas Department of Transportation. With grants for general public transportation and separately for specialized transportation for the elderly and disabled program. Transportation coordinator Jeff Priddy, says Lakemary leaders made the decision to only continue providing transportation services for people with developmental disabilities. There’re other transportation services available and those options were discussed recently at a meeting at the Paola Senior Center.
