The Kansas Highway Patrol has released its Memorial Day Weekend holiday activity report. KHP personnel assisted 590 motorists over the holiday reporting period, which was from Friday, the 23rd through Monday, the 26th. For the fourth year in a row, there were no DUI related fatality crashes. Unfortunately, there were four fatality crashes that resulted in 7 people losing their lives. DUI arrests remained constant with the last two years with 20. Speeding citations and warning were down significantly, 922 this year compared to over 1,400 last year. Also seeing a drop were seatbelt citations and warnings of all kinds, 132 last year compared to only 100 this year. KHP officials say that the public education ads and other programs are working in bringing down these statistics and saving lives.
KHP and all law enforcement continue to urge motorists to put down the phone and buckle up every time they get behind the wheel. And, if you have anything alcohol to drink at all, find a sober driver.
