Anderson County Sheriff Wes McClain has recognized two people who came to the aid of an injured driver, potentially saving his life. McClain says that the two men proved their heroic character through selfless action. United States Army Master Sergeant Charle Nolen and Anderson County rural firefighter A.C. Modlin, were the first on the scene of an injury accident, locating the victim when others may have overlooked him. The driver crashed off the roadway, through a fence and into a row of trees, was injured, trapped and hidden from passing motorists, but managed to call for help. Master Sergeant Nolen noticed Modlin slowing his vehicle and then jumping out and running toward the wooded area. Nolen, stopped, jumped out of his truck and ran to the trees, not knowing what he was rushing into. They were able to render first aid to the driver.

Their bravery and quick action made all the difference. Modlin says the recognition goes to Nolen, who, he says, appeared out of nowhere to help without hesitation. McClain says a man’s character is revealed in his willingness to set aside his job, his daily obligations and his time with loved ones to answer the call for help. Thank you firefighter Modlin and thank you Master Sergeant Nolen, not only for your actions that day, but for your service to our great Nation.
