A vehicle pursuit in Miami County last night, June 16th, ends with a woman in jail. The pursuit began within the Paola city limits but was discontinued by Paola officers as the vehicle exited the city. The Miami County Sheriff’s Office then assumed responsibility for the pursuit, which lasted approximately 45 minutes and traversed rural areas between the cities of Paola and Osawatomie. The suspect, a female driver, was wanted in connection with a domestic-related charge originating from the Paola Police Department. Deputies made multiple attempts to stop the vehicle including deploying stop sticks and attempting tactical vehicle intervention maneuvers, commonly known as pit maneuvers., however, she continued to evade capture.

The pursuit came to a conclusion at the intersection of 327th Street and U. S. Highway 169, where deputies successfully executed a tactical maneuver to box in the vehicle and prevent further flight.

As deputies approached, the driver, 63-year-old Christine Cantrell, of Paola, armed herself with a knife and attempted to inflict self-harm. Deputies swiftly intervened, disarming her and taking her into custody without further incident. No injuries were reported during the course of the event. Cantrell is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges.
