Big things are happening for walkers, bikers, and trail-lovers in Osawatomie! They are launching ‘Clearing The Path’, a new citywide initiative to make it safer and easier to get around town without a car. The multi-phase effort is the result of 3–4 years of community engagement and planning, including multiple planning sustainable places studies and direct feedback from Osawatomie residents. It also builds on recent street improvements that included new sidewalks and shared-use paths.

What’s included? Three new pedestrian bridges, including one over the railroad. New and improved shared-use paths, including 2.7 miles of upcoming sidewalk and trail connections and new sidewalk programs to help improve walkways and close gaps together, these projects will reconnect neighborhoods, schools, parks, and the Flint Hills Trail, all while making community more connected, more accessible, and more walkable.

Each of the projects included in this effort addresses a physical obstacle that currently prevents safe and seamless travel between neighborhoods, parks, schools, and public spaces.
