The Kansas State Fire Marshal wants to remind Kansans that the 2025 consumer fireworks season officially began Friday and ends on Sunday, July 7th. According to a release from the State Fire Marshal’s Office, this is a change from the 9-day fireworks sales season that Kansans are used to, as the 2025 legislature expanded the time allotted for seasonal fireworks sales to 18 days each year.
Cities and counties have the authority to prohibit and further restrict the use, sale, and storage of fireworks within their boundaries. State Fire Marshal, Mark Engholm, reminds you to emphasize the importance of using fireworks safely and responsibly to prevent injuries, fires and other tragic outcomes. Also he reminds you that Kansas law prohibits the possession or use of certain types of fireworks, including bottle rockets and other homemade explosive devices. Anyone who manufactures, modifies, possesses, or uses an illegal firework or homemade explosive device may face criminal charges. If you encounter illegal fireworks or homemade explosives, dial 911.
