The Kansas Department of Health and has announced that the Kansas Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program will officially begin on July 14th. The program provides eligible seniors with coupons to purchase fresh produce and honey at participating farmers’ markets across the state. Seniors are eligible if they are 60 years or older, or if they are at least 55 years old and a member of an Indian tribal organization. Eligible seniors must also have an annual gross household income before taxes are withheld at or below 85 percent of the federal poverty level.
The coupon can be used to purchase local produce and local honey at participating farmers markets from authorized vendors. To find out if you are eligible and learn more on how to apply, visit the KDHE dot gov website and search farmers market program.
