Garnett City Manager, Travis Wilson, is proposing a new sales tax in Garnett aimed at improvements at North Lake Park, with the focus on a new swimming pool. The proposal would increase a current sales tax from 8% to 8.5%. He says the increases would cover the cost of the construction of a new municipal swimming pool for Garnett. It would also be used to install new lights at the Sprint Track, new bathroom facilities around North Lake, update electric at campsites, buy new playground equipment, install turf on the infield of the ball complex and some other things.

Wilson says it is the fairest way, as everyone that spends money in Garnett would be contributing. He adds that in the coming months, there will be a flyer sent out highlighting the areas that would be improved if the tax was passed. The current pool was built nearly 80 years ago and is past it’s useful life. You can see complete details of the sales tax document at Garnett City Hall.
