Two men are dead and a woman remains in critical condition after a shooting last night, July 17th at Edgewood Homes in Lawrence. The Lawrence Police Department says officers responded just after 8:00 to the 1600 block of Haskell Avenue following multiple 911 calls reporting gunfire. At least one caller reported seeing a man running through a parking lot firing a weapon. When officers arrived, they found three people with gunshot wounds…a 21-year-old Lawrence man, dead inside a vehicle…a 24-year-old Lawrence man, also dead, found on the ground with what authorities believe was a self-inflicted gunshot wound, and a 22-year-old Lawrence woman, who had been critically injured and was flown by helicopter to a trauma center.
According to police, the shooting appears to stem from a domestic incident. They believe the woman and the 24-year-old suspect had recently ended a relationship. She reportedly arrived home to find him inside her residence. After a confrontation, she fled to a vehicle where the 21-year-old man was waiting. Police say the suspect then shot the man in the vehicle, chased the woman, shot her, and then took his own life. The names of those involved are expected to be released later this morning.
