In case you didn’t notice, the air is a little, let’s say smoggy out there today. Why? Blame Canada…or at least wildfires in Canada. The northeast winds are bringing smoke from Canadian wildfires south through our area today and tomorrow. It is worse in some areas and the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued a rare air quality health advisory for the entire state of Kansas. The Air Quality Index will range from moderate to unhealthy at times.

Those who may be sensitive and affected by the smoky air need to take steps to protect their health. Healthy people should limit or avoid strenuous outdoor exercise. More vulnerable people should remain indoors. You can help keep indoor air clean by closing doors and windows and running air conditioners with air filters. Make sure you stay hydrated by drinking lots of water, and contact your doctor if you have symptoms such as chest pain, chest tightness, shortness of breath or severe fatigue.
