It’s been an impactful first week for the newest member of the Prairie Paws Animal Shelter team. The shelter announced on Friday they have hired their first full time veterinarian. Dr. Susan Stueve has joined Prairie Paws. She earned her degree from Kansas State University and brings over eight years of experience to the role.
Director Vanessa Cowie says she has hit the ground running in overseeing the health of the animals at all three Prairie Paws Shelters. Dr. Stueve will perform the spay and neuter surgeries for the shelter’s low-cost spay/neuter clinics, their shelter pets and the trap/neuter and release program. Last week she completed two full days of surgery at the Manhattan Clinic.
Cowie says it’s a tremendous workload and they will continue their existing partnership with the 4th year veterinary students at K-State, as well as utilizing the incredible veterinary clinics in their communities. Cowie says it truly takes a village to accomplish all they do and she is thankful to have Dr. Stueve joining their mission to provide compassionate care and placement for animals in need.
