How good of a trail is the Flint Hills State Park Trail that runs through Ottawa. So good, that in a Nationwide vote, Trail User, voted it into the National Trails Conservancy Hall of Fame….in a landslide.! The Flint Hills Trail received over 80% of the vote for the Hall of Fame.

The trail extends 118 miles from Osawatomie, which is the eastern trail head, through Ottawa where it is the only intersection of two major trails in the state, where it junctions with the Prairie Spirit Trail at First and Main in Downtown Ottawa, then heads to Herington and runs through the last remaining Tallgrass Prairie System in the world. Governor Laura Kelly says she’s thrilled that the trail won the vote, saying the Flint Hills Trail isn’t just a path across Kansas, it’s a journey through the essence of the state…land, cultures and endeavors of the communities on the trail.

The trail conservancy says the trail is a prime example of how trails bring joy, provide cultural and historic connection, and deliver economic opportunity to communities across the Nation. The trail will also receive special signage promoting its inclusion in the Hall of Fame that will be installed along the trail.
