If you are a big fan of Whataburger and you drive out of your way to find a location, they are inching closer and closer to the Ottawa area. Recently a Whataburger opened in Lawrence and has been overwhelmed with business. Not, the corporation has announced the opening of a Whataburger restaurant to south Gardner. It’s located at 18759 South Gardner Road and is part of a growing presence in the KC area, and will be open sometime next month.
Why the sudden upswing in the franchises in our area? Some think it is because Kansas City Chief’s quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the co-owner of KMO Burger, a Whataburger franchise group, which owns and operates Whataburger restaurants in Missouri and Kansas.
In May, KMO Burger, which includes Mahomes, finalized a joint venture with Whataburger to take over 16 locations in Kansas City and Missouri and plans to add 13 new locations. Why? It was his favorite place to eat growing up in Texas.
Could a Whataburger be coming to Ottawa soon? For that to happen, someone would have to step forward and buy a franchise and that initial fee is about $50,000.
