Franklin County has an extreme shortage of child care openings. There are 40 kids needing care for every open spot. With the recent closing of the Emerald Center, that need has increased. Franklin County Development Council Director Paul Bean says they have been working hard to get the center back open:
Bean made his remarks at the Ottawa City Commission meeting last week. Commissioner Clayton, who is on a child care committee ,says he has seen first hand the gaps that exist and says a public-private partnership may be needed to assist with incentives to encourage child care development.
