A near disaster for a Kansas City pilot. Saturday morning, a passerby reported seeing a plane off the roadway near the Vinland Airport and in a line of trees. Upon initial investigation, the plane was found fully intact near North 700 and East 1700 roads, intact with no pilot with the plane. After investigation, the Kansas Highway Patrol says the pilot, 26-year-old Arnold Nguyen, of Kansas City, overshot the runway at the Vinland Airstrip, about two miles north of Baldwin City, and could not stop on the runway, crossing the roadway and striking a tree. Fortunately, the pilot was uninjured.

Crews were able to recover the single engine fixed wing Cessna aircraft and return it to its owner. No other details of the incident are available. You can see pictures of the plane on KOFO’s and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office facebook page.
