The 44th annual Kansas State Fiddling & Picking Championship brought hundreds of spectators and contestants to downtown Lawrence. Over 3,000 bluegrass and traditional music fans from across the midwest descended upon South Park in Lawrence this past Sunday, August 31st. Dozens of contestants competed across nine events including banjo, fiddle, mandolin, guitar, band contests and more. One of those competing was Ottawan Larry Lintner. According to his wife Audrey, Larry was convinced it wasn’t going to go well, but, the judges, who referred to him as ‘the legendary’ Larry Lintner, disagreed, and Lintner finished in third place in flatpick guitar. He also finished third overall in the National Flat Picking Championships at the Walnut Valley Festival, playing the same songs. The overall Flatpick winner was Andrew Morris from Kansas City. Congratulations Larry!!
