After some passionate and sometimes heated discussion from the public at their meeting last night, the Ottawa City Commission voted to keep the mill levy at the revenue neutral rate of 44.112, almost a half a mill lower than last years rate, meaning the city won’t take in any more in taxes than they did last year. Mayor Emily Allen and Commissioner Mike Skidmore sized up the situation:

The commission did vote to exceed the revenue neutral rate, just in case the county valuation changes, but, if it does not, they will remain revenue neutral. Many of the public comments voiced concern about rising property taxes and concerns about money being spent on the golf course . We will have some of those concerns for you in future newscasts.
