The Ottawa Police Department has announced they are adding a new officer to their ranks…the four legged kind. Ottawa Police are adding a second K-9 officer. Police service dog K-9 Cash has partnered with Master Police Officer Virosteck and assigned to the cops division. Both officers recently completed handler and canine certification. Both are ready to provide this essential service and be a force multiplier in Ottawa. K9 Cash joins K9 Yuri who continues to serve with his handler, Sergeant Dunlap.

Police Chief Adam Weingartner says the addition of a second police service dog on National Dog Appreciation Day is exciting. Adding they sincerely appreciate the exceptional service of these dogs and their dedicated handlers, whose duties often extend well beyond their shift, to train, maintain and work with their canine partners.

Funding for the second K9 was received through the Ottawa Police Foundation, which supports advanced technology and programs for the department through generous community and business donations.
