Public Wholesale Water Supply District Number 12 has announced it has begun it’s free chlorine burnout, in order to maintain high quality water throughout the entire distribution system. This involves switching from chloramine disinfection to free chlorine disinfectant to remove biofilms from the inside of distribution lines. Fire hydrant flushing may take place and help facilitate the process. The burn out began yesterday, September 15th and will run through October 6th.
The taste or smell of chlorine may be noticed in the water. It is harmless and will diminish as the line flushing is performed allowing the chlorine to stabilize. The water will remain safe to use for all purposes. However, customers that use tap water for home dialysis should contact their medical provider for information regarding possible changes in the disinfection neutralizations procedures. Also if you have an aquarium, consult your vendor for any necessary changes in tank maintenance. This includes the city of Pomona, Williamsburg, Waverly, Quenemo, Melvern, Lyndon and Lebo.
