You might be wondering what all the flags and markings are along the curbs and sidewalks on South Main Street between 13th and 15th. The City of Ottawa is getting ready to install new underground wiring for street lighting. The project is expected to take two to three weeks to complete. Utilities Director Scott Snethen:
Every time it rains, the street lights in that area go out. The Ottawa City Commission has approved a contract with Wright Tree Service for boring and pull box installations on Main Street to fix the problem. Snethen added that the current system can’t support upgrades and they will be installing 300 feet of new wiring and installing 12 pull boxes; all without tearing up the sidewalks or street. Estimated cost is just over $31,000.
