A man was taken to the hospital after he was injured in a rear-end collision Wednesday afternoon, September 3rd, west of Ottawa, that looked much worse than it turned out to be. The call came in shortly after 3:00 that afternoon of an injury accident. When crews arrived on scene, they found a car in the ditch upside down with major damage.

After investigation, it was found that 22-year-old Anthony Hernandez of Auburn was traveling east on K-68 when he rear ended a transit van, driven by 25 year old Xin Chen, of Lawrence, as he was stopped and waiting to turn north onto Florida road. After the crash, Hernandez went off the roadway and into the north ditch where if came to rest on its roof. Witnesses say both vehicles sustained tremendous damage. Hernandez was transported to AdventHealth Ottawa for treatment of minor injuries. Chen was not injured in the crash.

The highway patrol reports that both drivers were alone in their vehicles and both were wearing their seatbelts and that prevented more serious injuries.
