Last week, Kansas Attorney General Chris Kobach sued Governor Kelly’s Administration over their decision not to release information about state SNAP recipients to the Federal Government as directed. He says it violated the law and the state would lose millions of dollars in federal money aimed at the SNAP program. Tuesday, a Kansas District Court Judge dismissed the case.
Kelly says it was unfortunate that Attorney General Kobach decided to engage in low-rent political theater, wasting taxpayer dollars, and spreading misinformation. She says his claim that Kansas has lost over 10 million dollars in SNAP money are unfounded as Kansas Department for Children and Families has filed an appeal with the USDA. The filing of that appeal immediately prevented the USDA from withholding the $10.4 million until the appeal is heard. Kobach says he is considering an appeal of the dismissal, stating that is laughable if Kelly thinks she can change the federal government’s decision, just to thumb her nose at the Trump Administration.
