Miami County Sheriff’s Office recently conducted “Operation Aware” in Osawatomie, a multi agency operation focused on checking the compliance of registered sex, drug, and violent offenders in and around Osawatomie. There were 28 sex offender compliance checks, 10 drug offender compliance checks, 8 violent offender compliance checks, and 4 arrests made.
Thirty-four year-old Cassidy Buckley, for felony possession of controlled substance and violating the offender registration act; 59-year-old John Forney, for violation of the offender registration act; 35-year-old Lexington Laiter for violation offender registration act; and, 44-year-old Jesse Elkins, for unlawful possession of controlled substances, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and violation of the offender registration act and a pending parole violation.
This was the first operation of its kind for the sheriff’s office, designed to ensure community safety through offender compliance.
