If you haul larger appliances and things that may have freon in them, or ever did hold freon, to the Franklin County Transfer Station, you know that there is a $20 fee to take them. Why? Because the county has to have them checked for safety. County Solid Waste Superintendent Peg Pearson says that fee is going to increase to $25 soon.
The increase is due to changes that will require recovery operators to have special equipment to do the checks and will raise their fees $5. They are also closing the gates a few minutes earlier so they can get all the trucks in and out in time for regular closing time.
