Last month, Republican State Representative, Carrie Barth of Baldwin City, resigned from her post on the Kansas House. She and her husband are moving out of the district. Under Kansas State Statute, precinct leaders have 21 days to meet and choose a successor and the Republican Third District Committee did that Wednesday evening, October 8th. They chose Baldwin resident Courtney Sappington as the new Representative for the 5th District. Sappington has filed to run for the seat in the general election. The district includes Douglas, Franklin, Johnson and Miami counties.
Among Sappington’s priorities is foster care reform — a subject she’s familiar with on a personal level. Sappington and her husband are foster parents and have three children, two of whom they adopted after having them in foster care.
