An accident yesterday, October 2nd, in Anderson County sent a man to the hospital via air ambulance. About 9:45, a 911 call came in reporting that a vehicle had fallen on someone. Based on initial dispatch information, Anderson County EMS requested an air medical helicopter while enroute. Before emergency crews arrived, a nearby Westphalia resident was able to lift the vehicle off the subject and move them to a safe area.

Once on scene, first responders provided initial medical care until an advanced life support ambulance from Anderson County EMS arrived. Due to the patient’s traumatic injuries, the individual was transported by Life Star 1 Air Medical to a Kansas City area level 1 trauma center for further treatment.

Sheriff Wes McClain says he is incredibly proud of the community members who acted as the first… first responders, adding their quick thinking and bravery helped save the man’s life. The incident marks the second time in recent weeks that Anderson County’s pre-identified landing zones and online air ambulance ordering through the communication center have proven to be an effective response for traumatic injuries, allowing timely and coordinated care.
