A gun range just west of Ottawa on K-68 has been shut down by the Franklin County Commissioners, although it may be temporary. In the three hour debate and discussion, numerous people spoke against the gun range, saying they had bullets that had come onto their property from the range, some of which had damaged property. Commissioner Sabrina Meador, who shoots guns with her family, had a major concern about the berms that line the property to prevent bullets from leaving the range.
In the end, commissioners decided to temporarily halt operations at the Great Plains Precision Rifle Range, pending the planning commission and the range owners working with an engineer to come up with a solution to make it safe for everyone, including the houses down range and those using the rail trail.
