Recently the Kansas Forest Service took an inventory of trees in Ottawa and the results were interesting. Blaine Strobel of the forest service told commissioners that there were an overabundance of two types of trees…pin oak and silver maple, with pin oak making up 14% of the tree population. He advised the commission on what to avoid planting in the future and what to advise homeowners to plant:
To celebrate Abor Day, parks department employees planted a new redbud tree in Forest Park. Ottawa has been designated to continue as a Tree City USA.
