A traumatic injury involving a horse led to the hospitalization of a Miami County woman. Just after 7:00 Sunday evening, September 21st, Miami County EMS and other first response agencies were dispatched to a residence on 383rd Street in Fontana for a traumatic injury. Upon arrival, responders located a patient who had been injured while horseback riding. Additional resources from the Fontana Fire Department and Osawatomie Fire Department were ordered to the scene to provide assistance.
Miami County EMS provided care to an adult female with critical injuries. Due to the nature of the injuries an air ambulance was requested for transport to a trauma center and a landing zone was established at 327th and Old Kansas City Road. The patient was transported to the landing zone by EMS, and was flown to an area Level One Trauma Center.
Responding to the incident were members of the Miami County, Kansas Sheriff’s office, Osawatomie Fire Department, Fontana Fire Department, Paola Police Department, Osawatomie Police Department and Life Star of Kansas Air Medical Services. The name of the victim was not released and the Miami County Sheriff office says no further information will be released.
