It has been a busy couple of days for the Paola Police Department. Earlier last week, officers were sent to a 310 Hedge Lane for a possible burglary in progress. However, the suspect fled before officers arrived. Through witness statements and video, the suspect was identified and located at a nearby business. It was also discovered his vehicle was stolen. A witness told officers he changed his clothes before fleeing again. On foot. Officers and deputies from the sheriff’s office were able to apprehend him. Thirty year-old Roger Maynard of Chanute, was charged with two counts of burglary, theft, and possession of marijuana.
Sunday afternoon, officers were dispatched to 407 North Iron Street on reports of a male subject with a gunshot wound. The suspect fled before officers arrived. Witnesses identified the suspect as 37-year-old Matthew Hines of Paola. About an hour later, they saw his car re-entering the city of Paola on Baptiste Drive and he was take into custody without incident. Police say the case remains under investigation.
