Before the senate voted to pass a bill that would reopen the government, U. S. Senator Jerry Moran Chairman of the Senate Commerce Subcommittee on aviation spoke on the senate floor last night on the harmful impacts of the government shutdown on U. S. aviation and to urge the passage of a clean spending bill to reopen the government.
The ongoing government shutdown is the longest in history. Moran says with Thanksgiving only a couple weeks away, and air travel on the rise, without the government open, air traffic control was going to be an issue, as they have now missed two paychecks and are quitting in record numbers, forcing the cancellation of thousands of flights yesterday. He says the reduction of flights out of 40 major airports is necessary to keep the skies safe. He urged his colleagues to pass a resolution to reopen the government– which they did.
