The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest in the fatal hit and run accident that killed 20-year-old KU student Elsa McGrain last week. Elsa was struck and killed while running in the 1700 block of E 1500 road. A driver fled the scene after striking McGrain. She was found several hours later when a passerby reported they had found a person near the road.
Thirty six year-old William Klinger was arrested on suspicion of involuntary manslaughter. According to multiple reports, Klingler also faces DUI charges which include circumnavigating an ignition interlock device that requires people convicted of DUI’s to take a breath tests before their vehicle will start. If convicted, it would be his 4th DUI. He is being held without bond at the Douglas County Jail.
Elsa McGrain was a junior at KU and would have graduated next year. She lived in Lawrence and is originally from Omaha.
