The City of Ottawa was recently awarded a tree grant from the state of Kansas to help eliminate dead and dying trees and plant new ones. So, what trees are the main problem and why? Blaine Stroebel, of the Kansas Forest Service says the main issue is Siberian elms:
The grant was for $97,000 and will assist in the removal and planting of two new trees for every tree removed. They will focus first on Forest Park. Many people are concerned about the trees lining Main Street, as most of those are elms, and are dead or dying.
