The funds from the one cent sales tax passed by the voters in Garnett on Tuesday, November 4th, could go to a huge number of projects. The most publicized has been to replace the aging swimming pool that has given the city financial hardships for many years. If you talk to Mayor Marke Locke, he believes the focus should be on replacing the entire wastewater sewer system in the City of Garnett that is aging and crumbling also. He says the entire system is in terrible condition and needs to be replaced. The clay piping and storm drains have outlived their life span. He says having a sewer system that works properly is at the top of his list, as a quality-of-life item, as wastewater and sewer effect every single citizen in Garnett.

The proposal, detailed in a city report, would generate an estimated $600,000 annually to repair and upgrade the Lake Garnett Complex, including the city swimming pool, ballfields, campgrounds, a performance amphitheater and other community amenities.
