Kansas Congresswoman Caryn Tyson says she has seen property taxes surge higher across the state since 2021, just as everyone else has, and she’s fed up also. She says that without reform, it will only get worse. She is calling for a constitutional amendment to stop runaway property taxes . The amendment would put a 3% or less cap on assessment increases. Tyson says a 10% to 20% jump in home value means higher taxes, even if the mill rate stays flat. This leads to a big squeeze in family budgets and often times force people out of their homes. She says Kansans deserve transparency about who is raising their taxes and why.
She is calling for all Kansans to support the constitutional amendment for property tax relief and calls on everyone to go to local hearings and demand transparency on Revenue Neutral Hearings. She says if taxes rise and mill rates don’t, that’s not revenue neutral.
