The City of Ottawa is coming up with a plan to fix the streets in town, starting with those deemed “high priority”. At $14 million, or more, for just those streets, how do they plan to pay for it? Finance Director Melanie Landis says they plan to use a portion of the sales tax revenue that will be generated next year, special highway dollars, and debt service dollars. They would prefer to start with some short term financing so they can get started sooner and get as many done as soon as possible.

She adds that neither option will address all the streets that need attention, only the ones that need complete reconstruction. She says she would like the design portion of the projects to be started by mid March of 2026.
