Franklin County Public Works Director, Jeff Welton has announced that the Texas Road bridge project is finally going to begin. The project will start Monday, November 24th. Texas Road, north of K-68 in Franklin County will close during that time. Kansas Department of Transportation Secretary, Calvin Reed, announced $42 million in funding for this and 34 other bridge projects through the K-Dot System Bridge and Kansas Local Bridge Improvements Programs. The programs target improvements to city and county bridges, not on the state highway system and in need of replacement and repair. Projects, in most cases, require matching local funding. Franklin County is providing the match for this project.

The bridge is 1.5 miles north of K-68 between Pawnee and Sand Creek Roads and 6 miles east of Ottawa. The new bridge on Texas Road, which is replacing a shorter bridge over Walnut Creek, will be 110 feet long and have 13-foot driving lanes. It’s expected to be completed in the spring.
