If you saw a police and fire escort of about 150 motorcycles through Downtown Ottawa Saturday, November 22nd, and wondered what was going on, it was the 39th Annual Toys For Kids Bike Run. Hundreds of bikers gathered at the Eagles for activities, toy collecting and then parading through town, to Forest Park where the toys were loaded into an ECKAN truck to be distributed to children in need. Organizer Hoppy Hopkins on the importance of the run:
Later an auction was held at the Eagles Club and all the money donated to the ECKAN cause. The first toy run was started in 1986 by Shep Collins and Bob Black and continues today in tribute to them and to keep the spirit alive on the notion that every kid…deserves a toy for Christmas.
