Melvern – Mary Elaine Maack, 80, passed away on Monday, December 1, 2025, at her home north of Melvern, Kansas. She was born on December 29, 1944, in Abilene, Kansas, the daughter of Richard and Kathleen (Barrett) Funk.

Elaine, as she was known to all, was born in Abilene, KS. She moved to Lawrence after a fire at the Abilene farm. She graduated from Lawrence High School in 1963. She lived near Melvern for the last 27 years. 

Elaine was self employed as a horse trainer for many years and was an accomplished seamstress. She was a Flower Club member, member of the Women’ s Card Club and had been a 62 year member of the American Quarter Horse Association.

On February 5, 1983, Elaine was united in marriage to Roger Maack in Berryton, Kansas.

Elaine was preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Kathleen; and by her three brothers, Ed, Don and Howard Funk.

Elaine is survived by her husband, Roger of over 42 years and together for 51 years; her two daughters, LeAnn Bearden of Topeka and Lana Rose of Lyndon; her brother, Robert Funk of Lawrence; her two grandchildren, Hailie Rose and Montana Coverson; other relatives and friends.

Memorial services for Elaine will be at 1:30pm on Saturday, December 6 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 12:30pm to service time on Saturday at the chapel.
