OTTAWA — Lake Region Resource Conservation & Development chairman Don Stottlemire has been named president of the Kansas RC&D State Association. Stottlemire becomes state president of a group that’s struggling for survival after deep cuts in federal funding. Many of the RC&Ds are trying to hang on and some that have independent sources of income are doing better than the other, he said. That includes Lake Region, which has a tree planting and conservation service. The RC&Ds, including Lake Region, do a variety of water quality and recycling projects, poverty programs and economic development work in the rural areas of Kansas.
