A historic ceremony in a historic building yesterday, December 4th, in Ottawa as the contents of a time capsule, buried in the cornerstone of the Franklin County Courthouse since 1892, were revealed. The crowd packed the old courtroom as Franklin County Historical Society Director, Diana Staresinic- Dean pulled out each item and offered her perspective on each. She describes handling a letter written by George Washburn:

Other items included a penny, which is ironic because a new penny will be added to the new time capsule. The last year a penny was printed by the United States Government. For a complete list of items from the time capsule, check out the Franklin County Kansas Government facebook page, or go check them out, all items are on display at the Courthouse, as well as a list of items to be placed in a new time capsule that will be sealed back into the cornerstone, to be opened in 100 years.
