With the onset of winter, and colder weather bound to set in at some point around here, people are using their furnaces and fireplaces more and more. With the use of the fireplace, it’s very important to make sure your chimney is clean and safe. Fire Prevention Coordinator with the Ottawa Fire Department, Captain Mike Wilson, says let a professional check it out. He says he used to clean his own but decided to have a professional run a camera down it:

Also, Wilson reminds people that the Ottawa Fire Department will provide you with both smoke detectors and a carbon monoxide detector free of charge. Just give them a call and schedule a time for them to come out and install them in the proper places in your home.
