Did you know that Kansas farmers and ranchers are directly responsible for millions of people having a Merry Christmas and happy holidays? Think about it. So many things we use during the holidays and every day for that matter, are produced right here in Kansas. Here’re some examples: 11,000 Christmas trees are harvested in Kansas every year. More than 200,000 bales of cotton are produced every year in Kansas, some goe to making your stockings…Kansas farmers produce 208 million bushels of wheat, part of which becomes flour and ends up in your Christmas cookies…600 million pounds of pork are produced every year in Kansas, some making its way to your holiday table in the form of ham and other products. Finally, Kansas produces 600 million gallons of ethanol every year, which helps fuel holiday travel.
Agriculture is a part of every Christmas celebration. Kansas farmers work hard year-round to ensure Kansans have the food, fiber, fuel, and decorations for the holiday season and everyday life. So, as you’re celebrating this year…thank a farmer!
