OSAWATOMIE — Osawatomie school Supt. Gary French said a decline in enrollment numbers will lead to trimming the budget for the Osawatomie school district. The Osawatomie Journal reported the schools lost 15 students after the start of the school and before the Sept. 20 reporting deadline and the majority of them were on free or reduced lunches. The state provides additional aid for those students, who come from low-income families. French said he expected that the district would receive $40,000 more in state aid but with the loss of enrollment, the district will have to cut $16,000 this year. French said that isn’t a disaster but he is worried about funding for next year.
