GARNETT — Ever wonder what is was like to be a Kansas abolitionist in the 19th century? Tonight’s Friends of the Garnett Library annual meeting will preview that experience by recreating the kind of secret meetings abolitionists had in the free state during the “Bleeding Kansas” days. Anne Hawkins, professor of U.S.. history at Washburn University, will lead the presentation based on information she’s researched in regards to Kansas and the Underground Railroad. The meeting begins at 6 at the Garnett Public Library and is open to the public.
